The microbiology laboratory contributes to the diagnosis of infections, which optimise patient individual antimicrobial management. The role also plays an essential role in the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and advice on infection control issues.

As a Microbiologist, you oversee all the clinical microbiology activities and work closely with the IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) Specialist. You deploy and support microbiology laboratories including new conventional microbiology laboratories within different projects (which entails microbiology laboratory assessments); ensure proper recording of results; prepare laboratory supply orders (local and international); recruit laboratory staff; and train laboratory technicians according to MSF microbiology laboratory protocols. You also collaborate on the auditing and the feedback of antimicrobial therapies based on antimicrobial susceptibility testing for specific pathogens; and report unusual patterns of resistance, test supplementary agents, and provide advice on therapy for patients.
