Brussels 20k 2017 - Congratulation, and thank you
This year, you were one among almost 600 people who ran on behalf of MSF during the 20K race in Brussels. All together you raised 70 333 euros to help build the emergency room in Bangassou hospital in the Central African Republic. It was a great moment of sport and solidarity.
Please find here the photos of this incredible day:
Security Situation in Bangassou
Médecins Sans Frontières is a humanitarian medical organisation. We are independent and bring assistance in times of conflict or natural disaster.
In the Central African Republic, war has taken hold over large areas in the east of the country. The conflict has reached the city of Bangassou, where we worked in a hospital offering a wide range of healthcare services. The security situation in the city has rapidly deteriorated, and, as such, part of our team was evacuated and the work on the hospital’s emergency room was suspended until further notice.
80% of the population has fled Bangassou because of the violence, crossing the river to enter the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The remaining members of our staff have been helping this displaced population in collaboration with our DRC-based teams.
Given the importance of this emergency room, we are determined to restart work as soon as circumstances allow us to do so. We will keep you updated on any developments as the situation changes.
